New to our skills range is the Expedition training weekend. This is an essential weekend if you are planning on expeditioning in 2005, if you are an independent traveller or if you are joining one of our expeditions.

This weekend covers all of the aspects required for a successful expedition from campcraft to glacier travel. It offers a good combination of technical training and physical activity.

On Friday evening we discuss the logistics and planning for expeditioning. On Saturday morning we look at the technical aspects of campcraft and especially those required for long term camping. The afternoon we make a journey into the Reeks for a long walk before setting up camp. This allows us to simulate expedition life where we cook and settle ourselves for an early rise where we Summit one of the peaks in the dark to watch the Sunrise.

After breaking camp and returning, we spend the afternoon concentrating on the technical aspects often required for expeditions such as crampon and ice axe use, glacier travel, ropework etc.
