Training/Fitness Assessment and
Enjoyable Hill-Walking Adventures
These trai
ning adventure weekends in County Cork and
Kerry are geared for those wishing to have an
enjoyable and challenging
day or days amongst Ireland’s greatest land and seascapes,
as well as having Ireland’s highest and most spectacular
mountains as our playground.
We have courses suitable for the beginner walker to the
advanced trekker and for those wishing to progress from
a hill-walker to becoming a mountaineer.Objective of Assessment
Courses
1 To test the ability for a person to keep going for two
strenuous days while putting themselves under pressure
over rugged and mixed terrain and to simulate as close
as possible conditions that may be encountered on trekking
and mountaineering expeditions abroad.
2 It is a weekend of varying challenges that will stimulate
both the mind and body depending on you your objective.
3 These days events are geared for you to enhance your
skills and confidence as a walker and mountaineer in
a mountain environment, whether at home here in Ireland,
Scotland, the Alps, Himalayas, Africa…etc.
4 It also enables you to be assessed by your facilitators
of your fitness level to participate in a range of adventures
abroad; whether with us or to organise an adventure or
expedition of your own or with a group. In addition, the
course gives you advise on your training needs.
5 You will be able to judge for yourself your fitness level,
strengths and weakness as a team member.
6 This is also a great weekend out on the Irish hills
with people that have a love of nature and adventure.
You will
make friends with people of similar mind; it is also
a great social outing in an area that’s famous for
it’s hospitality.

Training/Assessment Course 1
Grade: Moderate to strenuous
Ideal training for those intending trekking in the Alps,
Indian and Nepalese Himalaya, Morocco, Peru and general trekking
worldwide. Or for those just wishing to have a few great
days out on the Kerry Mountains.
Brief Itinerary
Two days of hill-walking which will include climbing some
of Ire lands 2000/3,000-foot Mountains. These training days
do not include a night walks as these will be simulating
treks abroad that do not require a night ascent of a trekking
peak.
We will be linking at least two days walking and climbing
for at least 4 to 6 hours a day on the Kerry Mountains. Includes
over-nighting in hostel type accommodation or camping in
a remote part of Kerry.
(Dates to be advised on booking) The course includes: 2 nights
accommodation with continental breakfast in Pat Falvey’s
Mountain Lodge walking centre at the base of the Reeks overlooking
the Lakes of Killarney and dinner in the World renowned Kate
Kearney’s Cottage Restaurant.

Training/Assessment Course 2
Grade: Strenuous with night walk
Ideal training for the fitness level and stamina that is
required on the final days to climb on an expedition trekking
peak to the likes of, Kilimanjaro in Africa, Elbrus in Russia,
Island Peak, Mera Peak and Lobuche in Nepal or similar trekking
peaks around the world.
It is also ideal for those looking for an adventurous challenging
weekend amongst the beauty of Ireland's highest and most
spectacular mountains.
It entails walking and scrambling on steep ground an ascent
of Corrán Tuathail via a picturesque route, walking
the ridges of the Reeks and an exciting night walk to simulate
conditions that may be found on trekking peaks around the
world.
(Dates to be advised on booking) The course includes: 2 nights
accommodation with continental breakfast at Pat Falvey’s
Mountain Lodge and walking centre situated at the base of
the Reeks overlooking the Lakes of Killarney.

Expedition Training
Grade: Easy technical
These are courses that we run to suit individual needs. This
course is for climbers that would like to enhance their skills
on scrambling, rock-climbing, fix rope and jumaring techniques,
general rope-work techniques and crevasse rescue techniques.

Private Tuition for Individuals and Groups
We also organise private tuition for individuals and groups
as an alternative to joining in on a course. It is set up
for those wishing us to design a course more specific to
the individual or group needs towards their set out objectives.
We can mix Fitness Assessment, Navigation, Camp Craft, Rope
Techniques and general mountain skills into a great adventure
here in Ireland or abroad. Our aim is to ensure success through
preparation.
