Climbing
Equipment
Ice
Axes and Crampons

The indispensable companions on all mountain
terrains and
our connection points to the snow and ice slopes of Mount
Everest will be provided by the outstanding equipment of
Charlet Moser.
Our crampons will be of the 'automatic step-in binding'
variety for ease and security of fixing to our boots and
fitted
with Charlet Antisnow
fittings to prevent sticky snow build
up.
We will carry two different models of ice axes; a durable
and strong alpine-type axe, for use during our numerous
journeys up and down the lower reaches of the peak before
using an ultralight titanium axe on our summit bids.
The Charlet Moser 'Guide' and ultralight 'Snowracer' Ice
Axes
The Charlet Moser 'Super 12' crampon with
Rapid Fix attachment.
Harness

This item of our personal kit that connects us to the rope
and the mountain will be a Petzl Ultra-lightweight, fully
adjustable alpine
harness. Comfortable and allowing freedom
of movement, light and adjustable to put on and off over
boots and crampons, it will alter
easily to accommodate
more or less clothing.
Rope
The last line of defence in our safety, our choice of ropes
on this trip
are made by Edelrid. Throughout our climb,
we will use a variety of 8
and 9 mm static low-stretch
and dynamic climbing ropes. The former
will be used to
fix through the Khumbu Icefall and the steepest sections
of the Lhotse Wall while the ultralight climbing lines
will provide safety between us in the Western Cwm and on
the summit slopes and ridge.
Karabiners

Our Edelrid lightwight aluminum alloy 'krabs' used
on the climb will be
of locking and snap-gate varieties.
All will be wide opening for use with gloves and mittens,
they will connect us and our ropes to our anchors
in the
rock, snow and ice.
Ascenders and Descenders

The Petzl Handled (Left & Right Handed) Ascenders
are the world standard. Once we fix ropes through particularly
dangerous and steep sections of the route to be travelled
reularly, we will use these
to ascend.
Descending by abseil/rappelling we will use a Petzl,
traditional Figure 8 device of lightweight alloy.
Walking Poles
Telescopic poles will be at-hand throughout our expedition.
On the
long walk-in and on the mountain itself, these will
make our going
easier and safer, especially during hard
ascents and dangerous descents. Proven to us over many
years, to benefit our knees,
ankles and backs, our choice
of pole is a strong and lightweight Kompressor/Antishock
model made by Masters.
