Technical Clothing

First Layer-Underwear

Dryflo underwear uses a technology pioneered by Lowe Alpine that keeps us dry and comfortable. It is a highly efficent wicking base layer, pulling moisture to the outside of the fabric where it can evaporate. It is lightweight, highly durable, and ultra quick drying. We will each carry a selection of these garments, cut in womenís and menís designs in a number of weight and finishes, tops and bottoms. This will be an essential part of our clothing to be worn in all conditions.

Mid Layer (or extreme base layer)

Polartec Powerstretch is a superb, durable lightweight, breathable insulation The fabric has a 4-way stretch, it is ideal for expedition
base layer use and with itís anti-microbial use finish, it is suitable for multi-day use as sweaters, pants and bibs. Polartec Powerstretch is
one of the great innovations in outdoor clothing and is often a
favourite simply worn by itself.

Outer 'Fleece' Layer

Our choice of 'Fleece' includes garments from the Lowe Alpine range which are incredibly durable with outstanding weight-warmth ratios. These include the technically cut Aleutian (pile) Windshield and
Polartec Windbloc jackets as well as a simple and versatile pull-on Legend sweater. These garments will be on our backs throughout our expedition, from our beloved Irish hills to the high Himalaya.

Shell Wear

This layer provides the crucial defence against the harshest elements. We have chosen the Triplepoint Ceramic and Event fabrics. These are durable, waterproof and breathable to protect us from rain, snow and wind. We have chosen jackets and pants that are ultra lightweight, designed for expedition mountaineering with essential features.

All three climbers on this expedition will wear the Lowe Alpine EVENT Elite jackets. The Event fabric is the world's most breathable material used in outdoor clothing. In the months leading up to our departure that involved long days on the hills at home, we found this jacket to be the very best we ever used.Complimenting this, we are using Apex expedition pants.

Down Jacket & Expedition Suit

Absolutely vital kit! We will each take a Rab Summit jacket or Peak smock for use throughout the trip. These are made of premium white goose down (660 + fill power) and tailored of tough but lightweight Pertex Endurance fabrics into garments designed by climbers for climbers over thirty years. These will be invaluable for hanging around camp after sunset and at early mornings. High on Everest we will pull-on the warmest clothing known to mankind, full one-piece goose down expedition suits. These have been designed for use climbing and surviving on the highest and coldest rocks of the Earth.
