In Incan mythology it is said that Lake Titicaca was the birthplace of the first Inca king, Manco Capac. Incan legend also says that this is the place where the world was created from, when the god Viracocha came out of the lake and created the sun, the stars and the first people.
Lake Titicaca lies between Bolivia and Peru. It is situated at over 3800m above sea level. On the Peruvian side is the historic town of Puno, which is close to Macchu Picchu. The town of Challapampa, which is home of the famous labyrinth (Chinkana) lies on the Bolivian side of the lake. Also on the Bolivian side, is the largest island on the lake, Isla del Sol (Island of the Sun).
